A little liquid courage should do the trick

Happy day after the 4th of July! The 4th of July may be independence day but it's also a day to drink mass quantities of alcohol, make poor decisions and think you're indestructible. Well, I did none of those things but in the spirit of those things I decided to bring out the skateboard. I figured if I was going to injure myself I'd do it on a day when other people are also injuring themselves so that I might look a little less stupid if I needed a trip to the ER. Know what I mean?

I talked about the skateboard and talked about it a little more and then decided I needed some help to build up my courage. Yes, I consulted with a very wise soul, Samuel Adams. It was a little like Alice in Wonderland. I drank the magic potion in the bottle and everything fell into place. Ok, maybe not quite as smooth or easy as that. I put on my Van's, threw on an elbow pad to keep my previously broken elbow safe, grabbed the board, a beer and I stood there in the driveway. I was afraid. After a while I put my foot on the board and pushed off. I made Mike stand at the end of the driveway to catch me in case I fell. I would have taken him down with me but at least I wouldn't have been the only one on the ground looking like an idiot, right? Thankfully, I didn't fall.

I went up and down the driveway a few times and started wishing I had more space. It's hard to get going and really do much when your space is limited. Of course, while I'm doing all this some kid goes flying by on his skateboard. SHOW OFF! He made it look so easy. Not fair!

So, after about 30 minutes or so I decided to call it quits. I was tired and getting bored with the driveway. I was happy I didn't fall and even more thrilled that I stopped being afraid and gave it another try. Thank you Mr. Adams. Your Summer Ale is magical. I can't give all the credit to Sam Adams. Mike deserves some of the credit, too.

Next month I'll be taking 2 wheels away, adding a seat, and a motor. That's right, I'll be taking the motorcycle rider training course. I'm afraid of falling but I don't think they'll let Sam Adams help me out on this one. Hopefully, I'll have my motorcycle license at the end of the course. I'll let you know how it goes.

Stacy, do you back problems come in to play at all when you're skating?

My back doesn't bother me when I'm actually on the skateboard unless I twist my body too much. It's usually shortly after I've been on the board or the next morning that I feel the pain and stiffness.
